At MobyMax, we’re proud to say that our curriculum isn’t just for educators—it’s by educators. Our team of curriculum editors is made up of professional educators who bring their real-world classroom experience to every lesson, practice problem, and assessment we create. This unique perspective ensures that MobyMax isn’t just another edtech tool—it’s a partner in the classroom, designed to support teachers and empower students.
But don’t just take our word for it. Let’s hear from some of the incredible educators behind MobyMax’s curriculum about why having teachers develop curriculum matters, how it benefits students and educators alike, and what they love about MobyMax!
Flexibility Meets Purpose
“My experience as a teacher and an admin pushes me to help create tools that are flexible. We don’t need to be overbearing and supplant awesome things teachers and students are already doing, but we can provide a lot of benefit by filling in those gaps.” - Bradley T.
Bradley’s insight highlights one of MobyMax’s core development values: flexibility. We know teachers are already doing amazing work in their classrooms, and our goal is to support that work, not replace it. By providing tools that adapt to individual student needs, we help teachers save time while ensuring every student is met right where they’re at.
As Bradley puts it: “We are always working towards providing students with the 'right practice' at the 'right time.' Balancing assessment and automation with the ability for teachers to hand-select content for students can help get students to that 'right practice' faster and faster. There never feels like enough time in the classroom, so the ability to be able to get students to work on purposeful, right-level content with quality practice and feedback cycles can have a tremendous impact.”
Solving the Puzzle of Curriculum Design and Access
“Cracking the flow and structure of curriculum is akin to solving a puzzle––how do all the pieces fit together? How do we flow from this idea to that idea? What pieces need to be filled in along the way? In order for students to do this thing, what do they need to be able to do first? I love thinking in that way, building down from an overarching idea into granular key points and objectives.
Once we have that flow sketched out, we need to think about the best way to deliver those key points to make sure students can achieve each lesson’s objective. That engages the other side of my brain: the artistic side, the performance side. Working in math for the last few years, I’ve been thinking a lot about the best way to show a process or the best examples to use to illustrate a concept. ‘If I chose these sets of numbers, I’ll be able to hit this common misconception’––that sort of thing.”
– Peter R.
Peter R. goes on to share how his teaching experience influences his design: “I came to MobyMax over a decade ago, and before that I taught middle school at a school that served primarily low-income students in a major Rust Belt city. That was a deeply formative experience. I think of the material conditions––those tattered textbooks next to the shiny-new smartboards––and think that MobyMax really does fill a critical niche. As an all-digital platform, we don’t have to worry about out-of-date or taped-together textbooks. Students can access us on Chromebooks, or even their parents’ smartphones, and they will always have the most up-to-date version that we’ve published.”
The Power of Differentiation
“MobyMax’s powerful differentiation tools target each student’s areas of weakness and strength. This also gives teachers enormous flexibility. They can assign a lesson for their entire class, but they can also and at the same time ensure that each student is receiving supplemental support. It’s really one of the most powerful things I’ve seen––miles above what was around when I was in the classroom over a decade ago.” – Peter R.
As a MobyMax curriculum editor, Meranda C.’s teaching experience allows her to put on her “teacher hat,” thinking through all the aspects that come into building content that’s perfect for a student’s individual journey: “When writing directions and answer feedback for problems, and also when creating content for video lessons, I go into ‘teacher mode.’ I am constantly ‘putting on my teacher hat’ and imagining myself working with students. In this mindset, I’m aware of and careful to use language and images that are grade-level friendly. This helps me develop content more clearly and accurately.”
She continues, “As a former teacher who used MobyMax in my own classroom, I can say firsthand that it made a difference with regard to reaching students individually. I valued the way Moby could accurately assess and target each student’s needs, adapting and catering to each student as they worked. Using that information, I would flexibly create small teaching groups and assign work based on student needs.”
Lightening the Load for Teachers
At MobyMax, we know teaching is hard work. That’s why our curriculum is designed to lighten the load for educators.
“Only someone who has been a teacher truly understands how much work goes into teaching. As a former teacher and a current curriculum designer, I try to lighten that load however I can. When planning a new lesson, I frequently ask myself, ‘What will be most helpful for teachers and students?’” – A.H.
“I think MobyMax helps teachers give each student exactly what they need. Students can work at their own pace, getting extra practice where they need it and moving forward once they’ve mastered a skill. Teachers can easily track student progress and adjust their instruction if needed. Moby provides all the necessary tools so teachers can focus on what’s most important: their students.” – Kerry H.
Making a Difference, Every Day
For our curriculum editors, the best part of their work is knowing they’re making a difference. Meranda C. shares: “I love how I feel at the end of the work day. It is soul-enriching to know that the content I am a part of creating is making a difference in students’ learning. Every so often I’ll be out somewhere and hear a student talking excitedly/positively about doing Moby, and I can’t help but smile from ear to ear.”
“I love that I’m able to be part of something that supports both teachers and students.” - Kerry H.
Peter M., another former teacher on our team, echoes this sentiment: “I love the impact that our content can have for students who need a bit of extra support, or who are ready to move ahead without limits. I also appreciate the ability to receive feedback from the teaching community to adjust and improve our content with limited delay.”
Why It Matters
When educators develop curriculum, it shows. At MobyMax, we’re not just creating tools, we’re creating solutions that address real classroom challenges.
As Bradley T. puts it:
“Teachers and administrators have to make an unending number of major and minor decisions every single day. I love that at Moby I can dive deeply into standards and content resources and provide clear instructional content, practice content, and assessment content that helps lighten that decision-making load for other educators.”
At MobyMax, we’re here to support you, because we’ve been in your shoes. Together, we can make learning more personalized, more effective, and more rewarding for every student.
Made for educators, by educators—that’s the MobyMax difference.
