MobyMax To Provide All K-8 Schools and School Districts Closed by COVID-19 With Free Internet Learning Software

March 6, 2020 - MobyMax, the most widely acclaimed differentiated learning solution in the US., has announced that it will provide its award-winning educational software free to all schools and school districts forced to close to protect against COVID-19. The comprehensive software curriculum spans Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies for students in grades K-8 and meets the needs of struggling students as well as those working on grade level and beyond.

The announcement comes as some schools in New York have already closed and as Seattle schools and others also prepare for possible closure. “Most American school districts do not have plans in place to keep students learning if their physical structures need to be shuttered,” said MobyMax co-founder Glynn Willett. “The solution is to make online learning easily available to any school/district that needs it. Our software will be free to any affected school or school district that wants to keep teaching.

MobyMax has also released an emergency Contingency Learning Plan, or CLP, to help schools and districts prepare to maintain student learning no matter how long closures last. The four-step plan recommends schools:

  • select an internet curriculum program
  • roster all teachers and students in that program before schools close
  • practice using the curriculum at least once, and
  • notify parents.

Willett says that schools that choose MobyMax will be covered by one comprehensive e-curriculum in all subjects for Grades K to 8, sparing many teachers the burden of managing several different edtech tools remotely. In addition to the free subscription, Moby will support districts and schools in rostering students and teachers for no charge.

Willett recommends that schools and districts sign up now before they face closure. “It’s like a school fire drill,” says Willett. “You need to practice before a fire actually starts to know where to go and what to do.”

If the school ends up closing unexpectedly, schools will be prepared, and students will be able to continue learning with no interruption. If schools don’t close, contingency preparation will have cost nothing, and teachers can still use MobyMax for free.

Though some educators have expressed concern that online learning may be unfair for students who don’t have access to technology, Moby is designed to be used on any size screen, including a phone. The only requirement is an internet connection; bandwidth needs are modest. Additionally, MobyMax’s Messenger feature allows teachers to securely communicate with both parents and students via email and text messages.

Moby also features a variety of motivation techniques, including class-wide contests, badges, certificates, and earned game time to keep students engaged and progressing, regardless of whether they’re in a physical classroom.

How to Prepare Using MobyMax’s Free Emergency Planning Offer

Schools and districts should simply call 888-793-8331. It is free to get started, whether or not your school faces an imminent closure. Even if a school only closes for a few days or a week, the entire MobyMax program remains free for the rest of the school year.
